My first year in office has been a delight in working with fellow members of the committee and meeting ringers round the county. I guess the highlight of the year was the 100 ringers event at Bakewell to mark 100 years of The Ringing World publication. It was the involvement of so many people from many towers that do not normally present themselves at district or association events that made this occasion such a memorable one.
I wish to continue the work of encouraging and developing young ringers (the freely available CCCBR videos such as ‘Up the Spiral Staircase’, publicity leaflets and presentations on bells, ringing and methods are excellent resources). However let us not forget the more mature recruits. Ringing training has become more effective over recent years so progress can be sufficiently fast to keep people engaged, more so when done in a group, as I witnessed with the new band at Eyam.
2012 is the diamond jubilee year for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Olympic Games. Hopefully members will mark these events with appropriate local and district dedicated ringing, and publicize these as much as possible with the local radio stations also in papers and parish magazines
